Did you know? That an accumulation of soot on the fireside of your boiler represents a substantial loss of efficiency. This soot accumulation will act as an insulation between the burner's fire and the waterside of the boiler, causing a dramatic increase of fuel usage to get the same volume of steam generated.
Even a thin coating (1/16" - 1/8") of soot on the fireside of the boiler will greatly reduce heat transfer capabilities, resulting in higher fuel bills. Although we recommend to all of our clients that boilers be cleaned twice per year, in some conditions this is not often enough, and valuable fuel dollars are literally going right up the chimney.
In order to combat this energy theft, we recommend that all boilers be fitted with a stack thermometer. By monitoring the stack temperature, your building personnel have the power and measuring stick to easily recognize a situation that is costing fuel dollars. Often, by monitoring and recording the stack temperatures, a burner that goes out of adjustment and a boiler that is becoming coated with soot can be found and fixed BEFORE it creates a situation where there is wasted fuel dollars for 1 month, 2 months, or even 6 months.
Take control of your equipment, have it operate cleanly and efficiently. Add years to it's life. And stop wasting fuel.
Have a stack thermometer installed today, and make sure that a chart of readings is maintained in your building. |
